COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update - 31st March 2020

We are making some changes to how we look after patients because of the coronavirus outbreak.

This is so that we can keep our patients and staff safe and healthy and make best use of our resources.

The changes are in keeping with the government’s approach to protecting people against coronavirus by reducing contact to essential circumstances.

The main change is that we are reducing the need for patients to come into the practice by moving to telephone and video consultations where we can.  We are also making sure that you can get prescriptions without coming in.

When you call to make an appointment with a GP or nurse we will first of all ask you to tell us why you need medical help. This will help us decide how best to help you.  Please do not contact the practice for medical help linked to coronavirus. Follow the advice above.

We will initially arrange for a GP to call you back over the phone to assess your needs. If they can, the GP will provide you with advice there and then. If you need a further consultation, you will be that will be booked in for you.

Wherever possible, this consultation will be over the phone or by video if you have the equipment to be able to do this.

We are reviewing pre-booked appointments and may change these to a phone or video appointment if it is appropriate for us to do this, and of course we will let you know if we do change it.

We may offer you an appointment at the surgery but we will only do this if we think that you need to see or speak to a doctor or nurse in person, and we are sure that there is no risk to patients or staff.

Telephone Consultations

If you need to consult a doctor and feel that it can be dealt with over the telephone please ask for a telephone consultation. These consultations can be pre-booked and you will be given a specific time when thblue_telephonee GP will telephone you. (You will be asked for a contact number). 

The best time to call is after morning surgery between 11:00 - 12:00 each day.

The Duty Doctor triages telephone calls for patients requiring urgent medical advice. Non-urgent requests for advice are passed to the appropriate GP, who will return your telephone call when available.

Special Appointments (Extended Hours)

We offer the following appointments:

Tuesday each week: 18:30 - 19:30

Thursday each week: 18:30 - 19:30

These appointments are reserved for commuters and the elderly patients who rely on their working relatives to bring them to surgery and are by appointment only.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
